"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
- Aristotle
Reaching for excellence, is not vanity.
Achieving it, is not ego.
Reaching and achieving is putting yourself out there in uncomfortable surroundings...not the ease of what we know, but rather the dark of the unknown. Testing oneself, pushing yourself to do more than you have ever done, to achieve more than you had dreamed of.
I long struggled with saying or expressing my thoughts of self worth, or stating that I felt I was good at something. I struggled with it because too often I was witness to people making such claims with a very thick layer of ego attached to it.
To be excellent at something, be it following your dream, or working on cars, or taking care of a child, or mowing the lawn - or playing a sport, it all required work, dedication and sacrifice. It took practice and more practice. It took your attention to task, over and over again.
You earned it.
Now if we can apply all that effort, all that desire for excellence to the simple things we do - we would bring out the best in ourselves more frequently until it became a natural habit.
Not an ego, but rather just who you are.
Someone who reaches, and grasps...dreams for and succeeds.
You get the benefit of a habit that constantly shows your talents.
We all get the benefit of following your lead and seeing results that benefit many aspects of life.
Strive for excellence - and it too will find you anywhere.
Good Morning.
