Think of where I would be right now if I had just ...

Yes, those could all be true statements.  And surprise, they are all irrelevant. 
Reality check, that was then...this is NOW.
So go ahead and state the obvious.  It is good to get it out of your thougths and release it.
Then let it be gone.  Be done with negative reflection and the regret of not having done something that would now be paying you some kind of dividend for your action when it counted.

And begin where you can.
Right Now.

You may need to alter the plan to pick up speed or to see momentum build.
But you have lessons learned to build on.
The time between "I should have" and now is not wasted.  You gained insight.  You gained lessons and awareness.  Let it motivate you, not discourage you.

"Had I done that when I was younger, things would be alot different now.  But I didn't.  I did not know better.  But I do now.  So here I am.  Now how do I get there...from here?"

You might just surprise yourself.
