Awaken Your Day - June 19, 2008

" If everybody could understand how precious one day is, everybody would be more successful."
- Martin Latulippe, Speaker and Luminary

Often, a statement like this needs an example to help us see the full meaning. We could go on and on trying to find that one perfect mental picture that would tap into our emotions and trigger our understanding. We are all different in how we absorb a message like this.

So why don't we just sit back for a moment or three, and let the things that we hold precious in our life run through the picture window like a movie. Allow the meaningful moments to linger.

Focus on what matters. Feel their value for a moment. A dedicated moment.
Do not revisit conflicts, or hurt feelings. Do not catch yourself wishing for other things beyond what you have or what you have achieved.

Right now is about , right now. We need to touch how precious today is.

One of my dreams now is to continue living this life I have right now as it gets better and better with each new piece of understanding that I am given. I feel I am becoming more and more the man that my earlier circumstances often dictate I would never be. Having that awareness is my tool to help me understand how precious today is.

I wish for you today, one more piece of your own understanding, and with it, ten more moments of value that you can feel.

good morning.

Pierre

Awaken Your Day - June 18, 2008

You kind of like those mornings when you wake up after a good amount of sleep, and you cannot remember the day right away. I admit the temptation to reset the alarm is very strong.

So you get up, and start your routine. If you work outside your home, or from home, the next step is common for many of us. We enter the danger zone.

It might happen in the shower, or right out of bed as soon as your eyes snap open. It may hit while you zoom thru some form of breakfast; or for some it hits full speed when you get to the car. Your mind begins to cover, the "To Do" list. And with it, comes a side order of "frantic."

There are mornings I am so bad, that there is a pen and notepad sitting on the counter outside the shower.

Wednesday is a day I find this danger zone is enhanced. For not only are we thinking of the things that need to be done but we are now at a point in the week that seems to find this unseen stop watch and so now we are also in a race. Rounding the half way point and heading for home, it's reports in the lead, followed close by chores at home.

While we think of deadlines, we must also remember to give some attention to our personal lines. You know the ones. They seem to be getting more noticable across your forehead. And the deep ones between the eyes. And the most favorite ones are those that show up underneath our eyes. Personal lines are tattle tale signs. We need a break from the race.

Stress is not supposed to be an added reward to our daily tasks. Go talk to accounting and I am sure there is not a cost code for it. You don't get paid overtime for it. Can't claim it on your tax return.

We have to rely on our good friend, Awareness - to keep us in check and on track.
As many, many experts and successful people will tell us time and time again - stop. Get your bearings and realign yourself with your goal and the task at hand. Breathe, and then proceed back on course. In control and with clarity in our thoughts and gameplan.

Wednesday beckons. Let's be careful with our personal lines, and prosperous in all our endeavors.

Good morning.

Awaken Your Day - June 17, 2008

Your mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to try something new.

You just have to love it when that is all anyone asks of you. The range of your selection is unlimited really, just like I keep telling you that YOU are too.

Try something new. Simple really. But ...

Often times, we hear that we need to push our boundaries. Push our limits for we are the one that set them. One basic reason to do this, is to enjoy what we may be missing. Yes, I know, many folks are very content just the way they are... until something new hits them. And that is the point, for many of us, the idea of thinking outside of our own little box does not even cross our mind, until something of an outside force either introduces us and peaks our curiousity, or it hits us square and we have no choice but to acknowledge it. And often, we are then inspired to investigate.

So, why don't we focus for a moment on food as an easy example? Okay, I used to be a pretty fussy eater. Meat and potatoes was just fine by me. You could even burn the meat. No matter, it was still my favorite part. But, little by little and with some pushing and slowly found trust from some people I cared about - I learned to try some new things.

I didn't get sick. Only after, at the thought of all the wonderful things about food that I had been missing out on. That made me a bit sad. All that time I had never even tried other things. I was afraid.

OF WHAT?

Like jumping off a houseboat and not being able to touch the bottom of a great big lake. Or was that thankful I didn't touch the bottom? Right - well, stick to food. It is a bit safer than 200 pounds of tensed up body saying "Oh Yeah!!!" as my foot left the rail, and then, "Oh NO !!" as my foot left the rail - and then going really deep in the middle of a yell. Water, tastes so bland at times like that. Let's get back to food.

Last nite I was reminded as I ate my dinner, of the first time I ate Clam Chowder. I used to say I hated it, not realizing that I had never tried it. And then I loved it. My wife made some new fancy salad last nite. The ingredients were not what I was used to and as I bit into some avocado and yellow pepper with some spinach and feta cheese - waiting for the retaliation I knew was coming - I felt like I was in some Hoity toity restaurant. And then the fresh green pea pods, and the dressing and onions chimed in and, Oh My. Uh, this salad was like a full meal. Would you believe that 5 years ago, I would not touch any of the things I just listed? I tried avocado for the first time just a couple months ago. And... put it all together, and it is a pleasant dining experience.

What will you try today? Will it be something to eat? Will it be something new off the lunch menu? Will you try something new in your business? Will you say something to a certain someone despite being shy? You see, it can be anything new.

And the beauty of an open mind, stepping forward into the unknown, is that it brings out a wonderful unknown about yourself. You learn something new about you, and you get the experience to try it again.

Personal Growth is a Choice ... growth is anything new.

Good morning, and enjoy your discovery.

Awaken Your Day - June 16, 2008

"Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed."
- Peter McWilliams, Life 101

Alot to take in on a Monday morning? Precisely. It is not.

You can address things more directly, and you will already be in motion to the next required step.

It is Monday, and while it is the beginning of the week, and you may be tired from a nice relaxing weekend, and you have obligations to attend to, and it is 5 days until you have another weekend and and and... and, it is Monday.

Right.

It is that time where I can shape everything I am about to see in the next 5 days. Right.
Okay, here we go.

Good Morning
( Did I fall back on the standard Monday speech because what I had planned for today just didn't feel right and it was too long and I was rambling and I kind of lost the value of my point and so I just relied on old Faithful "Opportunity Monday" ? Yup. Accept it. )
