"If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be."
- Maya Angelou
So...it's morning. You have a routine. You look in the mirror. It's you. It has begun.
Or has it?
Not long ago we bought our son some pairs of super hero socks. If memory serves me correctly, it was after one wearing that he proudly came down the stairs beaming like he had some sneaky secret. Kids are great because they cannot hold it in. They can't hide the Ha Ha they want for very long.
Excitedly he had a Spider man on one foot and a Batman on the other. Distinctly red versus yellow and black. He was happy. More importantly, he had not been tripped up by "Normal". He was having fun doing the opposite.
A simple silly example of breaking the mold. No one got hurt. No one got embarrassed. Actually I kind of envied his choice to "just do". So while I did not have my own Spiderman and Batman socks to run upstairs and get so I could copy cat our kid... I did absorb the pure joy that he displayed in something just a little off the beaten path. I took his smile with me that morning, and that in turn allowed me to be a little better than normal in an office routine.
So, look in the mirror. Make a silly face. Do the A,E, I,O UUUUUUU.... with big mouth face. Go find your own mismatched socks and put them on. 'Normal' today is just not in the forecast. Find something new within you.
Good morning, greater day.
Greater you is beating normal with a stick.
