One of the greatest things I have ever heard is the often quoted expression, that most people do not listen to understand, they listen to respond. So often our brains are already mounting a comment, argument, rebuttal and debate before we have absorbed and processed the incoming communication.
This is in our work, and our homes. In our conversations and when listening to the radio and reading headlines in the paper.
With our work relationships, and with our loved ones.
It takes but a moment more to get all the details - to hear the tone, to take it all in. And then, have your turn.
The value to be gained can be immense.
Listen first to understand, and not to respond.
If you are not convinced, watch how you feel when you get short changed before you made your point.
Good morning, Greater Day. Greater You ... hearing it through.
